Easter Table Set Up In Keeper’s Cabin at Happy Valley Norfolk

Easter is a wonderful time to explore West Norfolk. With longer days, spring flowers appearing across the countryside and plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby, it’s the perfect season for getting out and discovering somewhere new.

If you've booked one of our luxury glamping cabins at Happy Valley over the Easter holidays - or you’re planning a future trip - there are plenty of fantastic family days out within around a 30-minute drive of Grimston. From wildlife safaris and historic castles to beaches and nature reserves, here are some great ideas to add to your list.

Whether you’re staying locally or planning a spring break in the countryside, here are some of the best family-friendly things to do near Grimston and King’s Lynn this Easter.

Take a Safari at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve

Watatunga Wildlife Reserve Safari Tours

For something truly unique in Norfolk, head to Watatunga Wildlife Reserve - a 170-acre conservation park dedicated to protecting rare and endangered deer, antelope and bird species.

Visitors explore the reserve on guided safari tours in electric buggies or trailers, travelling through woodland, lakes and open grassland while spotting wildlife along the way. Expert guides share fascinating stories about the animals and the important conservation work happening on the reserve.

It’s a memorable experience for both adults and children and really feels a little like going on safari - right here in Norfolk. Tours must be booked in advance, but it’s well worth planning ahead for. Just a short 25 minute drive from Happy Valley, it’s a family day out that you and the kids will remember for years to come.

Explore the Royal Parkland at Sandringham Estate

One of the most famous attractions in the area is the beautiful royal retreat at Sandringham. The estate’s parkland is open year-round and is a brilliant place for families to explore.

There are woodland trails, picnic spots and a large adventure playground that children absolutely love. The parkland covers hundreds of hectares, making it perfect for walks, bike rides or simply enjoying the fresh Norfolk countryside.

Spring is a particularly lovely time to visit, with wildlife becoming more active and the gardens beginning to bloom.

Discover History at Castle Rising Castle

Just outside King’s Lynn stands one of the most impressive Norman castles in England.

Built in the 12th century, Castle Rising features a huge stone keep surrounded by enormous earthworks. Families can climb the grassy banks, explore the grounds and imagine what life might have been like in medieval times.

The surrounding village is also charming, with historic cottages and peaceful countryside walks nearby.

Step Back in Time at Castle Acre Priory

The village of Castle Acre is one of Norfolk’s hidden gems and well worth a visit.

The spectacular ruins of the medieval priory are incredibly atmospheric, with towering stone arches and open green spaces where children can roam freely. Nearby you’ll also find the remains of a Norman castle, making it a fascinating destination for families interested in history.

After exploring, take a wander through the village itself - it’s full of character and makes for a lovely afternoon out.

Wildlife and Adventure at Pensthorpe Natural Park

Around half an hour from Grimston, Pensthorpe is one of Norfolk’s best nature reserves for families. Here you and the kids can discover Norfolk’s first Easter Garden & Egg Hunt at Pensthorpe, running 28th March – 6th April. Find out more here.

The park offers a fantastic mix of wildlife, outdoor play areas and walking trails. Kids can explore adventure playgrounds, discover interactive nature exhibits and look out for birds and other wildlife across the reserve. And you’re in for a treat because just in time for Easter, they are opening a brand new outdoor play area called ‘The Living Towers’ to complement their existing adventure playground.

Enjoy the Seaside at Hunstanton

No trip to West Norfolk is complete without a visit to the seaside. Hunstanton, affectionately known as “Sunny Hunny”, is famous for its striped cliffs and beautiful sunsets. Families can enjoy traditional seaside fun including:

  • Beach walks and rock pooling

  • Ice cream along the promenade

  • The Sea Life centre

  • Crazy golf and amusements

It’s an easy and fun trip if you’re looking for beaches near King’s Lynn for families.

Visit the Famous Norfolk Lavender

Another nearby favourite is Norfolk Lavender in Heacham, one of England’s most famous lavender farms.

While the purple fields bloom later in the summer, the site is still a lovely place to visit during the Easter holidays. Families can explore the gardens, browse the farm shop and enjoy the play areas and small animal attractions.

It’s an easy, relaxed stop if you're heading towards the coast.

Make the Most of Norfolk This Spring

West Norfolk is packed with fantastic places to explore, and many of the region’s best attractions are just a short drive from Grimston.

Whether you're heading to the beach, exploring historic ruins, spotting wildlife or enjoying the countryside, the Easter holidays are a wonderful time to discover everything this beautiful part of Norfolk has to offer.

If you're planning a stay with us at Happy Valley Norfolk later in the year, there are always new places to explore and plenty of family-friendly adventures waiting nearby.
