Book your October Half Term break at Happy Valley Norfolk

If you’re looking for a little Autumn escape, October half term is a rather lovely time to visit us here at Happy Valley.

The summer crowds have gone, the countryside is turning golden, the coast has that wonderfully-wild feel that you only notice after September, and there a plenty of things happening to keep the whole family entertained.

So if you’re tempted by a few nights away in a luxurious woodland retreat with your own private hot tub, here are some of our favourite local excursions to keep you and the kids entertained…

Go on Safari at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve

Fancy something a little different? Just a short drive from Happy Valley is Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, where you can explore 170 acres of Norfolk Countryside in your own guided electric safari buggy. It’s home to an incredibly rare collection of endangered deer, antelope and birds, and because the animals roam freely across the reserve, no two visits are quite the same. We recommend booking ahead, especially in the school holidays as buggy tours can fill up quickly.

Come to Happy Valley’s Wilderness Wedding Fair

Recently engaged or know someone getting married? On Sunday 18th October, 11am - 3pm, we’re opening up our venue for the Wilderness Wedding Fair, an immersive and vibrant showcase where couples can see our woodland venue dressed and shining, meet talented suppliers and create a vision of how a wedding weekend may look here. Go Pumpkin Picking at Pensthorpe

Pensthorpe’s Pumpkin Picking Festival runs from 24th - 31st October, with a brand new pumpkin patch, undercover carving barn, creepy maize maze and new photo opportunities.

And for something a little different, there’s also an After Hours Pumpkin Festival on 29th October, with a floodlit maze, outdoor play after dark and a live fire entertainer. It’s basically Autumn wrapped up in one beautiful setting - muddy boots, pumpkins and happy children included.

Get spooky at Holkham

The Halloween Garden at Holkham takes place from 27th - 31st October. Expect spooky stories, creepy crafts, a Halloween trail, face painting and pumpkin carving - all in the beautiful setting of Holkham’s Walled Garden. It’s spooky but not too spooky, making it ideal for younger children.

Head to the coast

October is actually one of our favourite times to visit the Norfolk coast. Wrap up warm, head to Hunstanton or Old Hunstanton, take a bracing walk along the beach and reward yourself with something warm afterwards.

Go for an Autumn walk

You don’t always need an organised event to have a brilliant day out. Norfolk, especially around us, is beautiful in autumn and there are plenty of woodland and countryside walks to explore around West Norfolk. Bring your wellies and just start walking - you are bound to be rewarded.

Visit Oxburgh Estate

For a quieter autumn day out, head to Oxburgh Estate and explore the historic house, gardens and surrounding countryside. It’s a lovely way to sped a few hours without having to entertain the children with a packed itinerary from dawn until dusk.

Discover something new in King’s Lynn

If you’re after a change of pace, King’s Lynn has plenty to explore, from its historic streets and buildings to museums and independent shops. And it’s close enough to Happy Valley that you can be back relaxing in no time.

Watch the Norfolk sunset

One of the best things about an autumn break? You don’t have to stay up until bedtime to see the sunset. Head towards the coast in the early evenings, wrap up warm and watch the sky change colour over the water. Then it’s back to Happy Valley for a cosy evening and a star-lit dip in your own private hot tub.
